About the Blog

You may be wondering why in the world I named my blog Happy Hour… There is a really great, embarrassing story here I must tell. So back in January 2010 I stayed with the Taylors for the month before finishing my last semester of college. Until then, my life consisted of intramurals, diet pepsi polar pops, 3rdWest Olson Hall, capstone classes, making puppy chow on Friday nights, group projects, small-town Indiana adventures, senioritis, roommate dates to McDonalds for sweet tea, and most especially Taylor University cafeteria food. Needless to say, my life was consumed with all things Christian college and very few things “real world.”

For the month, I did everything with Lisa. We called it a “homemaker internship.” Among her activities was happy hour. She talked about it like it was a normal women-of-the-church/young-mommy activity and how we needed to go sometime. I just had no idea why this was the thing to do. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love a good cherry limeade from Sonic…And occasionally, a milkshake, but calling it an outing with church ladies seemed so strange. Little did I know she was referring to a very standard outing having nothing to do with Sonic.

Eventually, Lisa and I had a HILARIOUS conversation about my misconstrued half-priced Sonic drinks idea of happy hour. We still laugh about it. So last year I experienced my first happy hour at Marcellas; cheap food and alcohol? Cool! What a great concept that I had been missing out on!

The tag line of this blog sums up what I will be documenting here. While I love my Midwestern roots, I needed a change. Hence, here I am to tell you about my new life in AZ and all the things I am learning. Buckle up.
